Rio+20 UN Conference on Sustainable Development 2012, Rio-Brazil
From the roots of sustainable development (Rio 1992 & Johannesburg 2002) we set the course for the future of sustainability for the next 20 years and beyond our generation. After 20 ears of political lobbying, industry change and civil society mobilization sustainabile development has become a critical factor of the global ‘Zeitgeist” of the 21st century.
Since its founding in 1987 oikos has been a shaker of this global movemenent from a business and higher education leadership perspective.
oikos and the Student Reporter will bring together a team of globally selected advocates to report during an intensive ten days training and advocacy programme on several conferences in Rio – 13-23 June, 2012. Among them are,
The Global Forum for Responsible Management Education (14-15 June, Rio): is organised by the UN Principles for Responsible Management Education Secretariat of the UN Global Compact Office. The 3rd Global Forum for Responsible Management Education will be the official platform for management-related Higher Education Institutions at both the Global Compact Rio+20 Corporate Sustainability Forum and the UN Conference on Sustainable Development – Rio+20. The events of both the Global Forum and Corporate Sustainability Forum will inform the proceedings and outcomes of this historic global summit.
The Rio+20 Corporate Sustainability Forum (15.-18. June, Rio): In cooperation with the Rio+20 Secretariat, the UN System and the Global Compact Local Network Brazil, the UN Global Compact will host the Rio+20 Corporate Sustainability Forum: Innovation & Collaboration for the Future. The Forum aims to strengthen the business contribution to sustainable development globally – seeking to bring greater scale to responsible business practices, to advance and diffuse sustainable innovation, and to stimulate broader collaboration between companies, governments, civil society and the UN.
The official Rio+20 Anniversary Summit – UN Conference on Sustainable Development (20-22 June, Rio): The Conference will take place in Brazil on 20-22 June 2012 to mark the 20th anniversary of the 1992 United Nations Conference on Environment and Development (UNCED), in Rio de Janeiro, and the 10th anniversary of the 2002 World Summit on Sustainable Development (WSSD) in Johannesburg.
