Tanaka is a Doctoral Candidate in the Economics and Social Sciences Area in the Indian Institute of Management Bangalore, India and Executive Member of Bokulbon Society for Socio-Cultural and Educational Development Assam, India(BSSCED). In the past she has worked on Political Instability and Economic Underdevelopment in Assam. She has also worked on Conflict and Institutional change in India at the Developing Countries Research Center, Delhi. When not researching for her PhD, Tanaka is involved with BSSCED in organizing health campus, conducting farmer awareness programmes, educating people about limited resources and responsible development, engaging people in everyday sustainable activities and creating markets for organically grown vegetables in her native Assam. A Masters in Political Science, her research interests are political economy, macroeconomics, environment, trade, development, international negotiations, political dissent and conflict studies. Tanaka loves gardening and photography.
